Country Lane Florals: Bringing Beauty and Heart to Boissevain

Nestled on the Strain family farm just outside Boissevain, Country Lane Florals is more than a flower shop—it’s a story of creativity, community, and care. Country Lane Florals is a business that grew from a simple idea and a love of creativity. Back in 2019, Sharon Strain started making outdoor Christmas Porch Pots using evergreens from her family farm. One day, a customer asked if she could make an indoor Christmas pot—and that single request sparked the beginning of Country Lane Florals.

Not long after, Sobey’s noticed Sharon’s work and invited her to join their floral department. She also spent time learning the craft with Carolyn’s Floral Designs in Brandon, learning the craft and industry from the inside out before officially launching her own business in late 2020. The name Country Lane Florals came naturally—it reflects the rural setting of her shop on the Strain family farm, where visitors drive down a country lane to reach her door.

Today, Sharon creates beautiful floral arrangements for all occasions and hosts seasonal workshops, especially around Christmas. What makes her work special is the personal touch. As Boissevain's only florist, she knows many of her customers and designs arrangements that truly fit the person and the moment. Her passion shines through in sympathy arrangements that honour loved ones and in bouquets for seniors that bring joy and comfort.

Sharon’s roots in the community run deep. Born in Deloraine and a longtime resident of Boissevain, she has raised her family here and built her business on those connections. The community has embraced Country Lane Florals, and Sharon gives back in meaningful ways—offering free delivery to seniors, donating arrangements to hospitals and care homes, and supporting local events with door prizes.

Like many small businesses, she faces challenges. Rising costs, purchasing flowers from Winnipeg, and travelling to Brandon for supplies add extra hurdles. Staffing is another issue that limits growth opportunities. For now, Sharon is happy maintaining her high standards and personal touch. However, she would like to expand into event décor for weddings and funerals in the future.

Country Lane Florals is owner-operated, but Sharon would gladly hire an assistant or student if the right person came along. She already collaborates with Sadler Greenhouse for Mother’s Day specials and is open to more partnerships. Most orders come in by phone or online, but walk-ins are always welcome.

When asked what she loves most about being a business owner in Boissevain, her response was clear: it’s creating arrangements that put smiles on faces. Her advice for anyone thinking of starting a business here? Embrace the community and focus on quality.

Country Lane Florals is proof that passion and local support can turn a simple idea into something beautiful. Whether you’re celebrating, remembering, or just brightening someone’s day, Sharon is ready to help—right down the country lane.
